Chapter 52 Aaron Ephron (Ephraimsky) (Johannesburg family)

Arron Ephraimsky “Ephron,” b. Grodno (L.L.), married Rosa (L.L.). This family’s original name was Efraimsky[Leeane Lazarus].  Samuel Ephron, Leanne’s father, has a copy of Samuel’s father’s passport with the name Ephriamski.

Leanne has posted the family tree to: http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/l/a/z/Leanne-Lazarus-Noranda/

Leanne supplied nearly all of the information for this branch.

>              Phillip (Lipa) Ephron (nee Ephraimsky), b. abt. 1898, Vilna, d. Nigel or Johannesburg, 4/25/1943 [CEM167] or 4/23/1943 (L.L.), married perhaps 1922, Vilna, to Chaia Kriwisky, b. abt. 1900, d. Johannesburg 8/25/1968 [CEM166]. Per Sam’s research, Phillip had a brother who left Vilna for the US in 1922. Also, he learned that their origins were from Grodno/Vilna area. DNA Status: possible, is worth checking? Elana’s cousin is Paul Cheifitz of the Jewish Family History Society of Cape Town, South Africa. [INT003]. He immigrated to South Africa from Poland (L. Lazarus). Chaia’s mother was Shayna and her father was Avrom, both born in Vilna. (L.L.)

Their actual name was Ephraimsky. Leanne says: “my uncles have the bluest eyes I have ever seen,
and I just learnt that their surname was Ephramenski and when they
immigrated they changed that to Ephron, do you think that your study is the
same family - according to my one cousin Phillip had a brother that remained
behind…”

Leanne wrote: “DAD'S MOTHER HAD SOME SISTERS AND BROTHERS WHOSE NAMES WERE - RACHMILKE, YEKELKE, RIVKE, PESKE, HIRSHKE.  WE THINK THAT ALL OF THEM PERISHED IN THE WAR -ONLY HIRSHKE SURVIVED, WHO LIVED IN SOUTH AFRICA AND THEN WENT TO LIVE IN LONDON AND DIED THERE.  THERE IS A COUSIN WHO LIVES IN PARIS, FRANCE (HIS NAME IS GEORGE KRIWISKI)”

>              Zuzu. According to Leanne, he went to America around 1922 and nobody knows what happened to him after that.
